___ Most Famous Landmarks and Cultural Monuments in the World - Sacred Mountains

Mountains have been in almost any culture and since long times places of adoration, admiration, and beliefs. They where said to be the seat of gods, goddesses, deities and other spiritual beings. Their sheer beauty or their vast proportions, or just their natural existence led people sense divinity.

"The tourist comes here with the camera taking pictures all over. What has he got? Another photo to take home, keep part of the place. He should get another lens – see straight inside. Wouldn't see big rock then. He would see that Kuniya living right inside there as from the beginning…"
    Kunmanara, Traditional Owner

It lies near the source of some of the longest rivers in Asia: the Indus River, the Sutlej River (a major tributary of the Indus River), the Brahmaputra River, and the Karnali River (a tributary of the Ganges River). It is considered as a sacred place in four religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and the B?n faith. In Hinduism, it is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The mountain lies near Lake Manasarowar and Lake Rakshastal in Tibet. There have been no recorded attempts to climb Mount Kailash; it is considered off limits to climbers in deference to Buddhist and Hindu beliefs. It is the most significant peak in the world that has not seen any known climbing attempts.
